As part of PDA’s activities for the strengthening of the 55 emerged Farmer Organisations (FOs) during the Organisational Development Stage of the EU/CSSP II, PDA organised a one day meeting for three executive members from each of the FOs in each of the 8 districts to deliberate on the way forward. The meeting which took place in all the 8 districts (Ahafo Ano North, Amensie Central, Adansi South, Wassa Amenfi East, Sefwi Wiawso, Juaboso and Bia) where the project is being implemented went well. In some districts there were 6 FOs and in others 8. At the end of the meetings each FO came out with three points resolution to be implemented for the development of the various FOs. The issues that were raised in all the 8 districts were peculiar to all the FOs indicating that the FOs are confronted with the same challenges;
- Mobilization of funds
- Availability of cocoa inputs
- Conducting effective and poor attendance of meetings
- Understanding the main purpose of the farmer organisation
- Engaging stakeholders
- Formation of district level farmer organisation
PDA will from next year January train the Department of Community Development Officers (DCDO) in Business Skills Development and they will in turn build the capacities of all the FOs.
