The PDA REL team and the Bath Social Development Research (Bath SDR) have been working to provide longitudinal evaluation and learning support to Opportunity International UK over the last three years, on a project titled ‘Economic Empowerment of Women through Rural Financing’ in Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The endline evaluation has just been completed and the PDA team led on both qualitative and quantitative data collection in Ghana and the DRC. In addition, the PDA team led the analysis of a quantitative survey of the project beneficiaries in the two countries. The rich experience gained from this research and evaluation has added up to our decades of practice of MEL in Ghana and increasingly, across Africa, especially regarding the deployment of computer assisted personal interviewer (CAPI) for data collection and the use of softwares such as SPSS and Stata for analysis.
