Project Name: Impact Study of Root Capital’s Agricultural Enterprises that link Smallholder Farmers to Market in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire (Root Capital Inc.)
Project Period: April 2017 – December 2020
The study is mainly quantitative, and uses the experimental difference-in-difference framework to design and assess impact of Root Capital’s financial support for smallholder farmers. More than 2500 smallholder farmers are expected to be interviewed at the baseline in 2017 in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire; and will be traced for follow-up survey at the endling in 2020. Whilst both the treatment and control populations will provide rigorous analysis to justify any attribution of impact to the project, small amount of qualitative data will be collected to offer possible explanations for any variation or otherwise in the study population over the period. PDA’s overall responsibility includes the coordination of the design of frameworks for countries, concepts and tools design, provision of quality assurance in both countries, data collection in Ghana, and analysis of data from both Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. PDA will write baseline and endline reports for all the agribusinesses selected in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire for Root Capital and MasterCard Foundation.
