The VSLA-CHILD Project is a Beyond Beans-funded child labour remediation initiative that aims to tackle child labour in cocoa producing communities through a community-driven approach. Participatory Development Associates is the lead implementer of this project in 57 cocoa growing communities. The project seeks to increase the access of 2500 farmers to microcredit, improve their savings culture and income diversity, as well as support farming households to develop self-help measures to protect children and remediate child labour using bottom-up approaches. In total, 100 Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLA) groups were formed. 62 of these were formed by Kooko Pa (KKP) field officers under the supervision of PDA, while 38 of the groups were formed directly by PDA field officers in Cocoa Merchant Ltd communities.
