Project Snapshot:
Participatory Development Associates (PDA) is supporting Tony’s Chocolonely in conducting a farmer survey across Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, engaging 1,303 cocoa farmers. The survey seeks to better understand the living conditions of cocoa farmers and address critical issues such as poverty and child labor within the cocoa supply chain. Insights from the survey will guide Tony’s in refining its sourcing approach and investing more effectively in community development initiatives.
In Ghana, the survey is being carried out in the Eastern Region and Ahafo Region, where PDA recruited and trained enumerators to ensure quality data collection. Across both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, PDA has been responsible for:
- Scripting farmer and tree-tagging survey tools in English and French (for Côte d’Ivoire)
- Enumerator recruitment and training: PDA recruited local enumerators and provided them with comprehensive training to ensure data was collected accurately, ethically, and sensitively.
- Field data collection and monitoring
- Data cleaning and management
Upcoming activities include continuous data monitoring and further data management in Côte d’Ivoire to ensure robust and reliable results.
