Project Snapshot:
The Voices from the Land Project was implemented under CARE International’s Security in Land Tenure Project (SLATE). This pilot initiative focused on examining land access challenges faced by poor land users through a comprehensive literature review and community-level dialogues. Pilot activities were conducted in two districts in the Greater Accra region and two in the Upper West, in collaboration with partner organization CIKOD. The project aimed to support national civil society advocacy, ensuring that Ghana’s land policy incorporates mechanisms for equitable security of land tenure.
Project Objectives:
- Conduct a literature review to identify barriers to land access for poor land users.
- Facilitate community-level dialogues to amplify the voices and concerns of marginalized land users.
- Support national-level civil society advocacy to integrate equitable land tenure mechanisms into Ghana’s land policy.
PDA’s Task:
PDA led the implementation of the project, overseeing the literature review and coordinating community dialogues. In partnership with CIKOD, PDA facilitated sustainable communication channels that enabled poor land users to directly influence policy discussions on land tenure.
How We Went About It:
- Research and Analysis: Conducted an in-depth literature review on the challenges faced by poor land users in accessing land.
- Community Engagement: Coordinated with CIKOD to facilitate dialogues in selected districts in Greater Accra and Upper West, allowing community members to share experiences and recommendations.
- Advocacy Support: Synthesized research and dialogue findings to support and empower civil society advocacy aimed at reforming Ghana’s land policy.
- Sustainable Channels: Developed mechanisms to ensure ongoing community input into national policy discussions.
