Project Snapshot:
PDA led a team of 13 staff to conduct an impact evaluation of the RTIMP, executed by Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture from 2007 to 2014. Commissioned jointly by IFAD and the Ministry, the evaluation employed the Participatory Impact Assessment & Learning Approach (PIALA) using mixed methods across 300 communities in 30 districts. The project aimed to improve rural livelihoods by developing commodity chains for roots and tubers, focusing on products such as gari, high quality cassava flour, bonding cassava plywood, and fresh yam export.
Project Objectives:
- Assess the impact of RTIMP on improving rural livelihoods through enhanced commodity chains.
- Evaluate smallholder linkages to markets, production enhancement, and processing improvements.
- Provide actionable recommendations to strengthen the project’s interventions and outcomes.
PDA’s Task:
PDA managed the comprehensive impact evaluation, coordinating field research, facilitating focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and sense-making workshops, and compiling a detailed report.
How We Went About It:
- Mixed Methods Research: Implemented surveys, interviews, and workshops across 300 communities to gather robust data.
- Participatory Engagement: Facilitated stakeholder sense-making workshops to integrate community perspectives.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Synthesized quantitative and qualitative data into a comprehensive evaluation report with strategic recommendations.
