Project Snapshot:
This initiative launched gNETPAD in September 2001 to foster participatory development across Ghana. PDA has continuously supported the network by hosting its secretariat and organizing innovative engagement events, including a series of five national Open Space Technology events designed to generate dynamic dialogue and disseminate participatory practices.
Project Objectives:
- Establish a robust network for participatory development in Ghana.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among civil society, government, donors, and INGOs.
- Utilize innovative facilitation methods to promote active participation and local governance improvement.
- Enhance capacity for advocacy and participatory approaches through regular national events and dialogue.
PDA’s Task:
PDA initiated the network formation, continues to host the secretariat, and organized key national events. This involved facilitating Open Space discussions, managing media engagements, and coordinating roundtables with diverse stakeholders to solidify the network’s foundation and drive participatory development.
How We Went About It:
- Network Formation: Initiated gNETPAD in September 2001 and established a secretariat for ongoing operational support.
- Open Space Events: Organized five national events that included:
- A GTV interview with Robert Chambers and two gNETPAD members.
- Three open space discussions on “Participation and Local Government.”
- A formal inauguration by the then Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ernest Debrah.
- A roundtable meeting with donors and INGOs to share insights and recommendations.
- Documentation & Dissemination: Produced a video and publication to capture and share the ideas, themes, and outcomes of the events.
