Project Snapshot:
This project involved a baseline study on the social dimensions of climate change in Ghana within the broader context of the Economics of Adaptation. In May 2009, a Field Validation Survey was conducted in 8 selected sites across the 4 agro-ecological zones to capture people’s experiences in coping with climate variability and environmental degradation. Additionally, Participatory Scenario Development (PSD) workshops were held at both national and regional levels, where diverse stakeholders developed realistic adaptation pathways for various livelihood groups and prioritized investments for short-, medium-, and long-term adaptation.
Project Objectives:
- Establish a baseline on the social dimensions of climate change in Ghana.
- Identify effective strategies for adapting to adverse impacts of climate change.
- Enable stakeholders to explore and develop realistic adaptation pathways through participatory processes.
PDA’s Task:
PDA coordinated the Field Validation Survey and facilitated PSD workshops to gather and analyze data on community experiences and adaptation strategies.
How We Went About It:
- Conducted field surveys across 8 sites in Ghana’s agro-ecological zones to collect data on climate adaptation practices.
- Facilitated PSD workshops with government officials, local experts, and representatives from the research and non-profit sectors.
- Synthesized findings to develop actionable adaptation pathways and inform investment priorities.
