NYONKOPA CHILD LABOR REMEDIATION PROJECT
This is a summary report on the activities carried out this quarter.

- Community Sensitization
The team has made community sensitization a very important addition to our weekly community visits. In these communities, sector coordinators engage different groups on issues of child labor and child rights. Through purchasing clerks, sector coordinators can mobilize farmers mostly within the BC value chain for these sessions.
- Village Savings and Loans
The team participated in the weekly meetings of all 20 VSLA groups in the 6 sectors. During these meetings, the sector coordinators validated the records of the groups to ensure that record-keeping is in order. Currently, 19 out of the 20 groups have started issuing loans to members. Some of the reasons given for loan acquisition include.
- Purchase cocoa inputs
- Pay school fees
- Pay hospital bills
- Replace roofing of house (destroyed after a heavy downpour)
- Purchase school items for SHS ward
- Renew health insurance for household members
- Expand business
- Offset debt
- Finance funeral of a close relative.
- Phonics by Phone Training
During this quarter, the conversation about the continuation of the phonics by phone training for teachers in the 4 remaining sectors (Juaboso, Oda, Goaso, and Kasapin) also commenced. Sector coordinators started engagement with Directors of Education in the various districts. The agreed-upon date will be communicated in due course.
- Nyonkopa VSLA App
Since receiving training from the team from Nyonkopa, our team has started with the data input into the VSLA app. The team has completed the entries for all non-BC farmers who are members of the 20 VSLA groups. Entries for BC farmers are also done for farmers whose names are already in the system. The team is liaising with the Nyonkopa team to complete the exercise so that we can commence with the Child Labor Remediation App.
- Vocation Enrolment and Distribution of Vocation Items
Six additional vocation enrolments were confirmed during the month of February 2022. Out of the six, five were from the Assin Fosu Sector, and one in the Oda Sector, bringing the confirmed number to 64. Below is the update on the vocation enrolment:

- Birth Certificate Distribution
The team received an additional 95 completed birth certificates during the month of January, bringing the figure to 1147 birth certificates whose processing has been completed. The team has also successfully distributed all 1147 completed birth certificates to respective beneficiaries. - ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH 2022
- Nyonkopa Child Labor Remediation App Input
During the month of March, the team will commence with the input of information of all 4090 children who received some form of remediation into the Nyonkopa Child Labor Remediation App.
- Phonics by Phone Training
The team will continue to liase with the Directors of Education in the various sectors to firm up the dates for the phonics by phone training for the four remaining sectors.
- Community Sensitization Drive
The team will continue with its sensitization drive at the community level. During this month, the team plans to send the sensitization drive to schools, to bring the teachers and the children into the fold.
- VSLA Meetings
The team will participate in all VSLA meetings during the month of March to monitor performance and update the records of these groups.
- Support Nyonkopa Technical Officers and others
As part of the ongoing validation visits by the Nyonkopa Team, the PDA remediation team will prepare itself to offer any support the team might require.
